In order to make changes to your home page you'll need to work in a markup language called "HTML" (HyperText Markup Language). The best way to learn HTML is by studying examples and trying it yourself. Of course, reading a good HTML book or enrolling in a course may be helpful, too, but it's no substitute for hands-on experience!
Most web browsers allow you to view the HTML source document. The 'View' menu item under the Netscape browser has a 'Document Source' selection that allows you to view the HTML code for any page being displayed.
Before embarking on your own web page production, it would be a good idea to review the policies concerning web page development and the use of computer resources at UMD. You should also check our UMD Web Page Developer's Guide .
If you are new to HTML, your sample home page should be enough to get you going. Other sources of information can be found on the Internet.
