
Posting Files on the World Wide Web Using WS_FTP:

Launch WS_FTP:
Click on the Start button, select Programs, then UMDNet Communications and finally click on WS_FTP32. Once you have launched WS_FTP, you will see the screen to the right: Change the Host Name The Host Name defaults to "ub.d.umn.edu". Change it to "www.d.umn.edu". Enter your User ID / Password Use your UMD username and password. Click the "OK" button. |

WS_FTP window: The left side of the window shows you everything locally -- (on the hard drive or a disk). The right side of the window shows you the remote files (what is up on the web server). Change the Local Directory: Double Click on [-c- ] to find files and folders that are on your hard drive. Double Click on [ -a- ] for the contents of your floppy disk. Change the Remote Directory: You should see your www directory near the top of the right window. Double Click on it. You have now opened the www directory and you should see the contents of that directory. By default, most student www directories will have a file called "home.html." |

Select Files Locally:
In the left-hand window, click on the file(s) you wish to post on the web. In the example picture to the right, I will be posting a picture called "myfile.jpg" to the web. Send Files to the Server: Click on the Arrow button pointing to the right. Your file will appear in the right window, indicating that it is now saved up on the web server.
