Emerging Leaders Workshops



All students are invited and encouraged to attend the emerging leaders workshops of their choice. Workshops are free, and sponsored by a variety of organizations.  There is no advanced registration - just come, learn, enjoy. (If you are seeking to earn the UMD Leadership Certificate, please document 20 hours of attendance in the leadership wizard of portfolio)

** An asterisk by a workshop title denotes that it meets the Cultural Competency Seminar requirement.

Weds, Sept 17th, 1pm, Rafters, "Free Speech in the 21st Century," presented by Atty Mark Anfinson, media and communications law.  He will discuss his first-hand experience at the GOP convention, with a focus on protesting and first amendment rights.

Sun, Oct 19th, 3:00pm-8:00pm, UMD  MPIRG Office, MPIRG's Field Canvass Director will be leading a training for students who would like to become a part of the Get Out The Vote effort in Duluth. The training consists of two hours of classroom style training to learn and practice the skills of concise messaging, confident public speaking, and one-on-one peer interactions. The last three hours will be an opportunity for students to go out as a part of a supervised group into the community to remind students to vote and hand out information on polling place location.
