Co-Curricular Transcript Program

UMD Kirby Student Center

In the Kirby Student Center we believe in the development of the whole person. We believe that learning happens both inside and outside of the classroom.

The co-curricular transcript program was designed for all students interested in recording the skills and awards they have obtained through participation in out-of-class experiences.

The co-curricular program is run out of the Kirby Student Center. This program has two set meetings a year. The first meeting allows participants to map out the areas they would like to gain skill in during the academic year (e.g. running meetings, tim e management). The second meeting allows participants to evaluate the skills they have learned during the academic year and reflect on what skills they would like to work on more.

This program offers supports to participants by notifying them when workshops are offered in the skills areas that they are interested in obtaining. Each new experience will be recorded on a co-curricular program transcript form. At the end of the program the experience will be synthesized into a co-curricular transcript (see sample). This co-curricular transcript form along with a cover letter explaining the program is ready to go into the student's Career Planning and Placement file to be mailed out with letters of reference to potential employers. This program will give you an edge in the job market.

You may apply for the program at any point during the year. The all-participant meetings are generally run during the fall and spring quarters. Individual appointments can be arranged at anytime during the year to go over the material covered in the meetings.

This program allows each participant to systematically gain marketable skills during their academic career at UMD. Just as the academic transcript shows the potential employer the base level of information the student has obtained, the co-curricular transcript shows the employer the skills and accomplishments the student has obtained outside the classroom.
