How to Graduate in Four Years

So you've seen those ads from private colleges guaranteeing graduation in four years! Did you read the disclaimers and fine print? You can graduate from UMD in four years too if you follow some basic guidelines and plan carefully. For more details contact the Student Affairs Office in your collegiate unit.

  1. Take a course load of 15 to 18 credits each semester.
  2. Keep your grades up so that you don't have to repeat courses.
  3. Don't change your major, or if you do, change in your freshman or early sophomore year.
  4. Coordinate your liberal education courses with your major/minor requirements.
  5. Meet regularly with your academic adviser and visit your major department regularly.
  6. Avoid trying to work too many hours while taking a full academic course load.
  7. Arrange your schedule around your academic plan rather than around work or co-curricular activities.
