RECREATIONAL SPORTS PROGRAM

The primary mission of Recreational Sports is to enhance the student experience and to promote healthy lifestyles for the University community through sport. By providing the opportunities and by encouraging participation, Recreational Sports seeks to develop your interests, knowledge, and the skills to enable participation in sport and fitness activities both while at the University and throughout a lifetime. A secondary part of our mission is to provide for student development through participation in sport, through student employment, and through participation in the administrative process of Recreational Sports. This extra-class experience promotes growth in skills which contribute to success in the productive years after the college experience. Please contact us by phone, 218-726-7128 or by visiting our office at the Sports and Health Center (SpHC) room 121.

INTRAMURAL TEAM

The Intramural Program offers structured/competitive sports organized into leagues and tournaments for people of all skill levels. Major sports are offered in women's, men's and co-rec divisions as well as at different competitive levels. Teams play a five week rgular season and may advance to a post-season play-off. Weekend tournaments and special events competition is offered in women's, men's, co-rec, and open divisions. Play usually takes place on weekends. Dates of competition will vary from year to year. Sign up by contacting us at SpHC 121.

FITNESS

Life fitness programs enhance the student experience. Fitness is a critical component of a healthy, holistic person. The benefits of being a physically fit individual are well documented. It is also recognized that finesss is an individual matter. Some programs work for certain people, but not for all people. Each program should be tailored to the individual needs of the person exercising. Exercising is the key to achieving fitness. The best excercise for you depends on your age, sex, size and other factors. Contact us in SpHc 121 for information and a possible evaluation through our FIT test.

AEROBICS CLASSES

A variety of classes are offered for men and women. Some special features are: cardiac blitz, circuit training, slammin' hi-low, low impact, funky step, steps, stretch/mediate/relax, and more. Contact us in SpHC 121.

WISE EXERCISE PROGRAM

This is a self-motivational fitness program for UMD students, staff and faculty, designed to encourage exercise routines for those busy schedules. This program is built around these components: Excercise; nutrition; stess management; general health habits; time management. Contact us at SpHC 121 for more information and to sign up.

JOB RELATED TO FITNESS

If you are interested in employment in any of these areas while a student at UMD and if you have some interest in making a career decision that involves fitness, rec sports, etc...contact us in SpHC 121. We have experienced many success stories in this area and would be glad to provide as much information and assistance as we can.

LIFE FITNESS PROGRAM

The Life Fitness Program provides individuals motivation and direction through quality exercise programs, special events and informal use of facilities. Programs such as aerobics, Mulit-Fitness, stetch & tone, and weight training will get you on the path to a healthier life-style. Other more non-structured opportunites are available as well such as a morning swim, weightrom workouts, jogging track and such. Come see us at SpHC 121 for informatin and sign-up.
