VOTING IN THE 2008 UNITED STATES ELECTIONS

Am I eligible to vote?

You may register and vote in Minnesota on the next Election Day if you:

  • will be at least 18-years-old on Election Day
  • are a citizen of the United States
  • will have resided in Minnesota for 20 days immediately preceding Election Day
  • have any felony conviction record discharged, expired, or completed
  • are not under court-ordered guardianship where a court has revoked your voting rights
  • have not been ruled legally incompetent by a court of law

How do I vote?

Special Notes for Students

  • Students can decide to have their residence listed as their address at school or a parent’s address. Students cannot register to vote at both addresses.
  • For students that decide to register at a parent's address and that address is another state, please check out the United States Election Assistance Commission for information on absentee voting.

What if I don’t pre-register?

The state of Minnesota allows voters to register at the polling place on Election Day. You must provide proof of residence to register at the polls. Check out the Secretary of State's Register to Vote page for more information on acceptable documents to use as proof of residence.
