If Your Privileges Are Blocked

The UMD Library charges fines for items returned late and charges replacement and processing fees for lost materials. An item that becomes more than 45 days overdue will be processed and billed as an unreturned item. You may pay your fines at the Circulation desk during hours when the Library is open. Ask to speak with a Circulation supervisor. For more information about payment of Library fines, see Paying Fines and Fees.

If a UMD student accumulates more than $10 in overdue fines, his or her borrowing privileges at the Library will be blocked.

Courtesy Card users will also be blocked if they accrue more than $10 in unpaid fines.

Faculty are not fined for late items but may be blocked if bills for lost items exceed $250.

If a student's fines remain unpaid for more than three months, that student may have a hold placed on his or her academic record. To reinstate privileges or to have a hold released, see a Circulation staff member or call 218-726-6120.
