There are several ways of returning materials to UMD Library
Returning materials directly to the UMD Library
Use one of these methods:
Indoors at the book return in the hallway. This is available during all hours that the campus is open.
In person at the Circulation desk. A book return built into the front of the Circulation desk is available during all hours that the Library is open.
Outdoors in the stainless steel book return bin near the Library entrance. Patrons are responsible for overdue fines or for any damage incurred to the item from being placed in the outdoor book return.
Please do not return the following types of materials to this book return:
-
Reserve materials (fines are $.50 per hour)
-
Group study room keys (fines are $1.00 per hour)
CDs and DVDs
-
Video and audio cassettes
-
Vinyl LP records
-
Audio books

Interlibrary loan materials must be returned to the UMD Library. Please keep the interlibrary loan label attached to the material. Return of interlibrary loan material without the label may cause delays in processing, which could result in overdue fines.
Returning UMD materials elsewhere
Please do not return UMD Library materials to the Duluth Public Library or to libraries that are not part of the University of Minnesota system. This may result in the delay of those materials coming back to UMD Library. Patrons are responsible for overdue fines incurred by returning UMD Library materials to libraries outside of the University of Minnesota system.
You may return UMD Library materials to libraries within the University of Minnesota system, such as libraries on the Twin Cities campus, at Morris, or at Crookston.
Returning materials that belong to other libraries
Please do not return to the UMD Library any materials that you checked out from the Duluth Public Library or from other libraries that are not part of the University of Minnesota system. This may result in the delay of those materials being returned to the proper library. Patrons are responsible for overdue fines incurred by returning materials to the wrong library.
