Get It!
Did you know that the library will now pull your books for you?
UMD students, faculty and staff can request materials from the UMD Library or other participating University of Minnesota libraries with the click of a mouse. Get It! provides system-wide paging and direct lending of library materials, from all of the larger Twin Cities University Libraries as well as UM Crookston and UM Morris.
Paging and Direct Lending from Other UM Campuses
The Get It! service combines the familiar ability to recall items that are checked out with a new functionality allowing users to request currently available materials, either from the shelves here at UMD Library or from another campus library. The items will be pulled by the owning library and held for users at their selected pickup location.
• First locate the item in the UMD Library catalog or in the MNCAT all-campus catalog
• Check the availability (holdings) of copies
• Then click the “Get It/Recall” link for the copy of your choice
Paged materials will be shipped via courier and made available for pickup at the UMD Library circulation desk.
Items eligible for Get It! include titles that regularly circulate for at least one week, including books, bound periodicals, and music scores.
Benefits of Get It!
Besides the benefit of having materials pulled and held for users at the circulation desk, Get It! offers the ability to manage renewals through "My Account" on the UMD Library Web site. This will mean longer loan periods for some items and multiple renewals unless another user requests an item.
Users can choose the most convenient pickup or return campus location for each request. UMD and all of the larger campus libraries on the Twin Cities campus are current options.
Students and faculty/staff will be able to select the items they want and manage renewals all from within “My Account,” without accessing their Interlibrary Loan account through ILLiad.
Is Interlibrary Loan Still Available?
Yes. You will still need to use ILLiad to request:
• Articles from sources not available at UMD Library.
• Materials that aren't owned by any University of Minnesota library.
• Materials that are restricted to use in the owning library.
For help or more information, stop at the Circulation desk or contact Paul Hanson in the UMD Get It!/Recall office, phanson@d.umn.edu or 218-726-6566.
Recalls
A UMD Library user may request an item that is currently checked out to another user by taking advantage of our recall service.
If UMD's copy of a title is not available, use the all-campus MNCAT catalog to see if you can find another copy available in the UM system. Select "Get It / Recall" to request an available copy. You will be prompted to log into "My Account" (UMD students, faculty, and staff). Follow online instructions.
If all University of Minnesota copies of the item are checked out, select a copy for recall. The current user will be notified to return the item within a week (if he or she has had it for at least two weeks). A new due date may be applied. Recalled items not returned by the recall due date will be fined at the rate of $1 per day.
Community users may complete a blue request form at the Circulation desk. We will notify you when the item is available.
Items with loan periods of more than one week are eligible for recall.
Search Requests
If you need help locating materials, students and staff at the Circulation desk are available to assist you. Stop at the Circulation desk to see if the item you're searching for is being sorted for shelving. If the item is not found in the Circulation area, you can initiate a more comprehensive search by completing a green Search/Save request form or by simply clicking on "Get It / Recall" in the library catalog.
If the item you need is declared missing from the UMD Library collection and is not available in another University of Minnesota system library, you may order it through your ILLiad account (if you are a student or faculty/staff member of UMD and if sufficient time allows for such a loan).
For assistance in placing Get It / Recall or Search requests, stop at the Circulation desk.
