Searches, Saves, Recalls

Searches and Saves

If you need help locating materials, students and staff at the Circulation desk are available to assist you. Stop at the Circulation desk to see if the item you're searching for is being sorted for shelving. If the item is not found in the Circulation area, you can initiate a more comprehensive search by completing a green Search/Save request form.

If the item you need is declared missing from the UMD Library collection, you may order it from another library through your ILLiad account (if you are a student or faculty/staff member of UMD and if sufficient time allows for such a loan).

Recalling an Item

A UMD Library user may request an item that is currently checked out to another UMD Library user by taking advantage of our recall service. Periodicals, multimedia items, and Reserve materials are not available for recall.

To recall an item, look it up in the library catalog to see if it is checked out. Only checked out items are eligible for recall. Select "recall" next to the item you need. You will be prompted to log into "My Account" (available to UMD students, faculty, and staff). Follow online instructions.

Community users and others who prefer to use a paper form may complete a blue paper request form at the Circulation desk. We will notify you when the item is available.

If a recall is placed on an item that you currently have checked out, you will receive a notice asking you to return the item by the due date. If the person requesting the item has placed a "rush recall" on it, a new due date may be in effect.

Recalled items not returned by the due date will be fined at the rate of $1 per day.

For assistance in placing search, save, or recall requests, stop at the Circulation desk.
