5. How do I arrange for a coursepak of readings for my students?

1. Can I make a copy of copyrighted print materials?

That depends -

  • Does the copyright statement give you permission to make duplications and if so, does it limit the purpose the duplication can be used for?
  • Is the item a government document? Usually you can duplicate it, but Title 17 Chapter 1 Sec. 105 of the United States Codes addresses this question.
  • Is the item you wish to copy in the public domain? You may use the When works pass into public domain chart courtesy of University Of North Carolina at Chapel Hill to assist you in determining if the item is in the public domain.
  • You need to decide if the duplication and use is " fair use " if the copyright statement does not grant you permission, the work is not from a government document and the work is not in the public domain. You are encouraged to complete and retain for your records a Fair Use Worksheet.

2. Can I duplicate a video or other multimedia item?

The PBS TeacherSource site has information regarding copyright and the use of Educational Multimedia as well as an extensive FAQ.

3. Can I show this video in class?

An article on the libraryvideo.com web site " Can these Videos be Shown in a Classroom or a Library Setting? " addresses this question.

4. Can I put articles from journals on reserve?

Yes, although copyright and fair use is always a consideration. Generally, putting one article from a journal on reserve for one semester is considered fair use. Please work through the fair use worksheet to determine if the use is fair and contact Mary Carlson at 726-8241 if you have questions.

5. How do I arrange for a coursepak of readings for my students?

To arrange for a coursepak you need to contact Print Services.
