Copyright Information
The Copyright Statement
Copyright statements are usually found on the reverse side of the title page in books, and on the first 1 or 2 pages of a journal, often with the subscription information. A simple copyright statement looks like this:

The wording in a copyright statement may not limit your fair use rights, however it may frequently grant you additional rights under specified conditions as stated in the examples below. Please note that it may be in your best interest to retain a copy of the copyright statement in your files with other documents related to your project.
Examples of copyright statements:
"Permission to make digital/hard copy of part or all of this work for personal or classroom use is granted without fee provided that the copies are not made or distributed for profit or commercial advantage, the copyright notice, the title of the publication, and its date appear, and notice is given that the copying is by permission of the .... To copy otherwise, to republish, to post on servers, or to redistribute to lists, requires prior specific permissions and/or a fee. "
"No written or oral permission is necessary to reproduce a table, a figure, or an excerpt of fewer than 500 words from this journal, or make photocopies for classroom use. Authors are granted permission without a fee, to photocopy their own material. Copies must include a full and accurate bibliographic citation and the following credit line: "Copyright [year] by the ....; reproduced with permission from the publisher."
"Permission is granted by the ... for libraries and other users to make single reprographics copies for their own or their client's personal, noncommercial or internal use. Authors are granted unlimited noncommercial use. This permission does not extend to copying for advertising or promotional purposes, creating new collective works (i.e. course packets/anthologies), resale or any material in this journal but not copyrighted by this journal."
