eBook Collections

Library subscriptions are indicated with the the umdtag icon and are available to UMD students, faculty and staff on or off campus.

 

NetLibrary umdtag
The UMD Library provides access to over 9,000 ebooks on a wide range of subjects through NetLibrary. These are available in the UMD Library Catalog or can be searched in the NetLibrary Database. NetLibrary also provides access to about 3,000 public domain publications. Here are some tips for using NetLibrary ebooks.

Safari Tech Books Online  umdtag
UMD Library subscription to over 50 computer (software and programming) books.

IT Pro  umdtag
Collection of over 5000 online books about computers, computer software, and computer related topics.

Early American Imprints  umdtag 
Collection of books, pamphlets, and broadsides printed in the British American Colonies/United States from 1639 to 1800.

Early English Book Collection Online   umdtag 
Collection of over 150,000 books and pamphlets published between 1475 and 1700 in England.

Patrologia Latina  umdtag
Contains full-text of works of the Church Fathers from Tertullian in 200 AD to the death of Pope Innocent III in 1216.

ChemLibNetBase, Knovel, EngNetBase, and EnvironetBase umdtag
These databases contain both books and journal articles and are for science and engineering students. Use appropriate limits in your search to find just the books.

eBook projects with contents available to all:

Project Gutenberg
A comprehensive web site focusing on literature with an emphasis on the classics. It contains thousands of online texts in the public domain including light literature as well as classics such as Moby Dick, Shakespeare, or the Bible, and reference works such as Roget's Thesaurus.

eBook Collections (Many Books)
A selection of eBooks from Project Gutenberg arranged by different categories.

Free EBooks for the Microsoft Reader and Palm
Over 2,100 publicly-available ebooks from the University of Virginia Library's Etext Center

Incunabula Collection at UC Berkeley
Digitized copies of over 430 titles printed before 1501.
