Linking to Databases

It is possible to link directly to a database (e.g. Sociological Abstracts, GeoRef, Academic Search Premier). However, it will not work simply to go to that database and then copy the URL from your browser's location bar.

What you will have to do is this:

1. Go to the list of databases.
2. Find your database on the list.
3. Right-click on the link to it.
4. Copy the link location.

The link that you will copy in this way will look something like this:

http://www.d.umn.edu/lib/lurl/LibGo.php?TiPrimaryID=602

These links go to a registry where we keep track of the current URL for each database (they change occasionally) and direct the user through our authentication server, so that they can reach the database from off-campus by logging in.

Please contact the librarian for your department if you would like further instructions on how to link to a database.
