ABSTRACT SUMMARY OF COLLECTION
The Cecilian Society was organized in 1887 “for the purpose of founding a public musical library and otherwise advancing the interests of music in (Duluth).” The Cecilians sponsored music recitals, organized concerts, and met informally to study music. The group’s first president was Stella Prince Stocker, a Duluth musician. The Cecilians disbanded in 1900 to establish a larger music organization known as Matinee Musicale, but the Cecilian Society was reorganized in 1905.
