The Kerlan Award is given "in recognition of singular attainments in the creation of children's literature and in appreciation for generous donation of unique resources to the Kerlan Collection for the study of children's literature." The books listed below are owned by the University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) Library.

Special Acknowledges

Karen Nelson Hoyle was a professor at the University of Minnesota and curator of the University of Minnesota Children's Literature Research Collections for 45 years. The Kerlan Award committee selected Hoyle to recognize her tireless work to build the collections, connect with faculty to incorporate the study of children's literature into the curriculum, and raise awareness of the collections in the larger community.
