At LSBE, we are building tomorrow’s business leaders, so it’s a
priority to maintain active involvement in the business community.

Students put their classroom theories into practice through internships, career shadowing, field trips,
mentoring, and direct participation in regional businesses. Faculty members get involved
through formal or personal exchanges, mini-internships, volunteer activities such as board and committee service,
guest lectureships, practitioner’s contributions to curriculum development, and practical life-experience seminars.
In addition, many of LSBE’s alumni continue to strengthen their relationship with the school by providing
opportunities for students and supplying practitioners who support LSBE programs.
We are not only participants in the business community, we are leaders, and our students,
faculty, and alumni work together to help the region reach its economic potential.

The UMD Center for Economic Development (CED) and the CED Advisory Board
is made up of business leaders from throughout the region. The CED supports the growth, diversification and stability
of northeastern Minnesota’s economy.
The Bureau of Business and Economic Research
(BBER) provides research on economic concerns and business opportunities in the region.
The Center for Economic
Education (CEE) has a mission to improve the quality and quantity of economic education and economic literacy
in the classroom, with a focus on K-12 teachers and students in Minnesota.
The LSBE Advisory Board is the link between the Labovitz School of Business and Economics and organizations and
businesses in our community. The board provides advice, assistance, strategic planning, and development activities
for the school.
The LSBE Accounting Advisory Board advises the Department of Accounting and assists in maintaining
a high standard of accounting education. The board promotes the availability of academic resources and provides avenues
of communication that help the LSBE Accounting Department remain responsive to the changing needs of the community.
Our business community is well-represented in LSBE by recruiters who interview graduating students and offer
internships and further opportunities for learning.
