health care management program
If you’re looking to make a difference in one of the nation’s biggest, most
important, and most challenging industries, our new Health Care Management Program is for you.

The Health Care Management major focuses on the management, financing, and economics of the health services sector.
It prepares you for careers in healthcare management or policy, clinical medicine, pharmaceutical services, nursing,
or dentistry.
The industry brings with it tremendous opportunities and significant challenges, and the demand for qualified
managers is increasing.
In response to this high demand, our Health Care Management program builds on the established strength of the
academic departments and existing courses in the Labovitz School of Business and Economics. In addition, it provides
a series of courses that familiarize the student with unique aspects and issues of the healthcare industry.
As part of the program, you’ll learn from an interdisciplinary faculty based in LSBE and adjunct faculty
from area health services organizations. These instructors will prepare you to respond to the many critical problems
faced by hospitals, clinics, government agencies, pharmaceutical and biotechnology firms, insurance and managed care
organizations, and consulting firms.
You will learn from experience how the healthcare system works through collaborative research and consulting
projects among students, faculty, and the healthcare community. You will begin working on important issues as part
of an internship program, and learn what works and what does not through presentations from professionals in the
healthcare industry.
The Health Care Management major includes studies in the following: healthcare organization and management, economics
of health care, health policy analysis, financial management of health institutions, legal and ethical aspects of
health care, medical sociology, medical information systems, quality measurement and management, and long-term care
administration.
If you decide to continue your education through graduate studies, the Health Care Management program provides the
fundamental education and experience necessary for further degrees in health administration.
Serving in such an important, life-changing industry has its unique demands, but it also has its unique rewards.
If you are interested in health and health care, we can help you make a difference in healthcare facilities,
and by extension, the lives of the patients they serve.
