MBA

Admission

To be admitted to the MBA program, applicants must present evidence of having:

  • Earned a bachelor's degree from a regionally or nationally accredited college or university
  • Achieved satisfactory scores on the Graduate Management Admission Test (The GMAT is waived for students who have passed the CPA exam or earned a graduate degree from a regionally or nationally accredited college or university)
  • Have made satisfactory progress in completing the required foundation/prerequisite coursework. Students with exceptional academic records may apply for early admission prior to completion of this coursework.

Application materials may be obtained from the UMD Graduate School Office (Phone: 218.726.7523; Email: grad@d.umn.edu; Internet URL: http://www.d.umn.edu/grad) Students are admitted to begin classes at the start off fall semester in early September or spring semester in mid-January. A completed application form, official transcripts from all institutions attended, GMAT, a current resume or vita, and other materials (e.g.; TOEFL scores for international students, certification verifications, etc.) must be received by July 15 for the September start of fall semester and by November 1 for the January start of spring semester.

Generally, the criteria for admission to the UMD MBA program are:

  • An overall or final two-year undergraduate GPA of at least 3.0 (on a 4-point scale)
  • An overall GMAT score at the 50th percentile or above (approximately 530-540) and a score at the 25th percentile or above on the verbal, quantitative, and analytical writing analysis parts of the GMAT within the past five years
  • For international students, a TOEFL score of at least 550 (paper exam) or 213 (computer exam)

Performance on these criteria, as well as the number of years of full-time work experience, professional goals, and completion of formal education or training in foundation/prerequisite areas are considered and balanced as part of the admission decision. Strong credentials in other areas may balance failure to meet preferred levels in one specific area.
