The Labovitz School of Business and Economics approved the following technology initiatives:

Fall 2007-08 Academic Year Approved Technology Proposals:

  • Purchase two Gateway laptops for student club use.
  • Purchae Easy media creator 10 software for student instruction on video editing
  • Purchae CARMA License for one year for student/faculty access to the latest development in research methods used in organizational and social science disciplines.
  • Purchase BSG Simulation software for current semester for students to engage in process of operating their own business.
  • Fund computer workshops at the Center of Economic Development for LSBE students to enhance their skills in Microsoft Computer Applications.
  • Purchase Online Audit Simulation License for students to learn audit software and reinforce their understanding of key auditing concepts.
  • Purchase Airliner Wireless Smart Board Tablet and Hitachi BT-Z Tablet for inclass instruction allowing students to interact with instructor.
  • Purchase "Stock-Trak" student licenses allowing students enhanced learning of the real investment world from the classroom setting.
  • Purchase HD Camcorder for additional innovative use of video for filming locations and products.
  • Purchase two replacement lapotps for the LSBE Student Loaner Laptop Program.

Spring 2006-07 Academic Year Approved Technology Proposals:

  • Purchase a Gateway Tablet with additional RAM for student use in sales presentations
  • Purchase BSG Simulation software for upcoming year for student to engage in process of operating their own business
  • Purchase GoVenture Small Business Software Licenses for upcoming year for students use as role of Founder and CEO of their own business
  • Marketing for Laptop Initiative for requirement awareness for current students and incoming students
  • Renew annual subscription to the Microsoft Development Network Academic Alliance (MSDNAA) for academic year 2006-07
  • Hire an Undergraduate Teaching Assistant to assist students in FMIS 2201 for the 2007-08 Academic year.
  • Purchase SAM software site license for 2007-08 academic year.
  • Purchase Deep Freeze software license for LSBE student loaner laptop and computer lab to maintain the integrity of the LSBE systems.
  • Purchase MacBook Pro Laptop for student instruction and use.
  • Fund computer workshops at the Center of Economic Development for LSBE students to enhance their skills in Microsoft Computer Applications.

Fall 2006-07 Academic Year Approved Technology Proposals:

  • Purchase web-based teaching and learning tool Aplia for Principles of Macroeconomics course for the spring semester
  • Purchase VideoClix software for creating clickable videos
  • Purchase TV/VCR/DVD player and headphones to be used in conjunction with classroom activities
  • Purchase BSG Simulation software for students to engage in process of operating their own business.
  • Purchase a one-year license for Plagiarism Prevention license.
  • Fund computer workshops at the Center of Economic Development for LSBE students to enhance their skills in Microsoft Computer Applications.
  • Purchase a one-year license for Belarc for inventory and security of LSBE computer systems.
  • Fund a five-day ACL (audit command language) training session for Jerry Lin, so he can transfer the working knowledge and skill to students in auditing courses for technology they will commonly encounter in practice.
  • Purchase SAM software site license for 2006-07 academic year.

Spring 2005-06 Academic Year Approved Technology Proposals:

  • Purchase a one-year license for Plagiarism Prevention for use by LSBE faculty for the 2006-07 academic year.
  • Hire an Undergraduate Teaching Assistant to assist students in FMIS 2201 for the 2006-07 academic year.
  • Hire an LSBE student to digitize VHS recordings, and purchase a candid camera DVD set, for faculty to effectively use audio visual technology in the classrooms.
  • Purchase and install a sliding panel white board in SBE 36, for enhancing classroom lectures.
  • Purchase an online course using games in education to diversify the learning tools available for students.
  • Purchase a wireless microphone, reciever, and speaker system for use in FMIS 3141, Business Communication, to acquaint students with a system they will likely to use in business.
  • Purchase of five Gateway laptops, for student orientation sessions.
  • Fund computer workshops at the Center of Economic Development for LSBE students to enhance their skills in Microsoft Computer Applications.
  • Purchse SAM software site license for 2005-06 academic year.

Fall 2005-06 Academic Year Approved Technology Proposal

  • Enlist ITSS help in setting up the LSBE Care Committee’s electronic version of the Scholarship process.
  • Hire web developer to develop a new, professional, user-friendly Labovitz School of Business and Economics website for students, parents, alumni, faculty, staff, and the community.
  • Purchase a student response systems for a 46 seat LSBE classroom.
  • Purchase a document camera (ELMO) for Business Communication students to view and critique actual business messages and work prepared by class members.
  • Purchase four simulation packages and hire three students for 80 hours each to evaluate the simulation packages.
  • Purchase a 20-inch TV/VCR/DVD player combo for use of audio-visual aids to enhance in-class lectures and discussions.
  • Purchase 20 laptops and a cart for use in the Accounting Department’s Student Laptop Initiative.
  • Purchase five desktops for GRA’s to work efficiently with student and faculty projects, and purchase four additional laptops for faculty to utilize for in-class instruction for LSBE students.

Spring 2004-05 Academic Year Approved Technology Proposals:

  • Hire a LSBE Student Reporter to maintain and update LSBE website with current and accurate information.
  • Purchase workshop seating at CED to assist LSBE students in taking initial or refresher computer courses for academic year 2004-05.
  • Purchase five additional laptops for the Student Laptop Loaner program.
  • Hire a Student Office Assistant to work 20 hours a week within the Student Loaner Laptop program.
  • Hire Undergraduate Teaching Assistant for nine hours a week for fall 2005 and spring 2006 to assist students with their projects for FMIS 2201 and to assist with teaching SAM Office 2003 in FMIS 2201 and FMIS 3201.
  • Purchase a desktop PC and upgrades for the VITA Program.
  • Purchase SAM Software site license for a pilot project for the academic year 2005-06.
  • Purchase a Gateway Laptop 460E computer for use by the LSBE Student Reporter.
  • Purchase 200 access codes from McGraw Hill's Homework Manager to be used in accounting courses for academic year 2005-06.
  • Purchase a one-year license for Plagiarism Prevention for use by LSBE faculty for the academic year 2005-06.

Fall 2004-05 Academic Year Approved Technology Proposals:

  • Purchase simulation software for measuring graduate program learning objectives and undergraduate student performance.
  • Purchase an Apple G5, a Windows personal computer, and a laser color printer to enable LSBE Student-to-Business Initiative (SBI Cases) to write reports and final presentations. The Apple G5 will be utilized in hands-on-experience in producing professional quality sample, 30 second television ads and other multi-media applications.
  • Purchase equipment to enable focus group projects to be recorded for a marketing research course.
  • Purchase hardware to set up a portable network system in the classroom for main use by MIS, to allow students hands-on-experience with networks.

Spring 2003-04 Academic Year Approved Technology Proposals:

  • Hire an Undergraduate Teaching Assistant for 6-7 hours a week to assist students in the beginning MIS Course.
  • Renew the annual subscription to the Microsoft Development Network Academic Alliance (MSDNAA) for the academic year of 2004-05.
  • Purchase of a Sony DVD and CD-RW Firewire USB for quick/efficient backing up of systems to be repaired by the LSBE Technology staff.
  • Approved funding for the hiring of several undergraduate students to assist Don Krueger in the Technology Program to continually achieve a high quality of technology services for LSBE Students, Staff, and Faculty.
  • Complete wireless access throughout the Labovitz School of Business and Economics.
  • Add 10 wireless cards to the student loaner laptops, to increase the number of wireless laptops to 20.
  • Purchase 50 user licenses for McGraw Hill’s On-Line Homework Manager to be utilized as a trial basis for Karen Salmela’s Managerial Accounting class.
  • Acquire a Gateway M275 laptop for demonstration purposes to show LSBE students, who purchase a Gateway laptop, the capabilities of the product.
  • Purchase an Intel Xeon 3.0 GHz Web/Application Server to be used in all the FMIS classes that have server components.

Fall 2003-04 Academic Year Approved Technology Proposals:

  • Hire an Undergraduate Teaching Assistant for six hours a week for fall 2003 and spring 2004 to assist students with their projects for FMIS 1201 (Introduction to Business Information Systems).
  • Provide wireless access for faculty members in Accounting and Management Studies and staff members in the Dean’s office.
  • Hire a student assistant for 10 hours per week throughout the school year to assist Don Krueger in the Technology Program.
  • Approve funding for Don Krueger to attend the EduCause Conference to deliver a presentation on technology trends and best practices in business schools.

Spring 2002-03 Academic Year Approved Technology Proposals:

  • Purchase a focus-free mobile presenter for classroom use by the Management Studies department.
  • Purchase a scanner for the Technology lab.
  • Purchase 14 copies of Macromedia Dreamweaver MX studio for website development in the Technology Lab.
  • Purchase, install and maintain the security systems for the Technology lab and the classroom laptop systems’ storage area.
  • Partial funding of conference fees for AIS training of an Accounting department faculty member.
  • Purchase an Altus Server and IBM Developer Works Toolbox Professional software to enable the development of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) Systems and web services.
  • Purchase PeopleSoft modules to help develop ERP Systems in the area of Human Resource Information Systems and other possible systems.
  • Purchase a projector and electronic cart for use in SBE 140.

Winter 2002-03 Academic Year Approved Technology Proposals:

  • Purchase five additional laptops for the Student Loaner Laptop Program.
  • Funding to develop and implement an LSBE on-line course offering survey.
  • Purchase five new computer systems for the LSBE Technology Lab.
  • Approve continual operating budget for the LSBE Technology program.
  • Continue to purchase services from CP Internet to create and update the SBE website for fiscal years 2002-2004.
  • Purchase FMIS Department server to support student faculty work in SBE.
  • Hire a ¼ time GRA to continue reprogramming of FORESAL 02.
  • Purchase STATISTICA Data Miner software and CRSP Database to be used for development of intelligent systems for financial and other analyses.
  • Provide recognition awards for the three Technology Program Interns.
  • Purchase of FMIS Department subscription to Microsoft Developer Network Academic Alliance for 2002-2003 and 2003-2004 academic years.

Fall 2002-03 Academic Year Approved Technology Proposals:

  • Hire a Technology Program Director, pay for part-time staff position for the program, and small operative budget.
  • Update approximately 30 laptops used by students in Accounting department courses.
  • Funding to construct, furnish, and equip a small technology lab for SBE students.
  • Purchase 30 laptops and two storage carts for use the SBE classrooms.
  • Funding provided to hire a GRA for assistance in technology research project
  • Funding provided for faculty member to attend an Artificial Intelligence workshop.
