A message from Nik R. Hassan, LSBE Technology Program Director

“The LSBE Technology Program staff is responsible for all aspects of technology integration within LSBE. As leader of the program, my emphasis is on continuous improvement and ensuring that our strategic direction is in alignment with the overall mission of LSBE and the university. To that end, I am focused on developing, training, and leading our staff and student employees of the LSBE technology program, and forming effective collaborative relationships across LSBE, the University of Minnesota, and beyond.”

Specific activities of the LSBE Technology Program staff include:

  • Assisting faculty with innovative uses of technology in teaching and research activities;
  • Providing teaching/learning activities for students, faculty and staff using state of the art multi-media resources, including Internet tools, and PC, and Mac software;
  • Managing the LSBE IT service structure (ITIL) and management dashboard;
  • Working closely with the Business Office to stay within budget
    targets;
  • Providing technology support for our network, classrooms and labs, and faculty, staff, and student systems;
  • Developing, deploying and maintaining up-to-date expertise in
    educational, learning and business technologies;
  • Writing and consulting on grants that seek to enhance technology in teaching and learning;
  • Working with the technical staff who support the university system infrastructure;
  • Updating, enhancing and maintaining the LSBE web site;
  • Coordinating the Student Loaner Laptop program, as well as lab and classroom laptops

Internship Opportunities

Several students are hired each semester to assist in activities associated with the technology program. Currently, all positions for Fall 2007 have been filled. A work-study financial aid grant from the university is desirable, but not necessary.

The ideal candidate will have good customer service orientation, be a self-starter, and be dependable. You will work with faculty and staff, and assist Technology Program Director in the maintenance of LSBE computer systems and the transportation of systems from the business school to ITSS Computer Maintenance facility (187 MWAH).

Projects could include:

  • Running diagnostic software
  • Developing online databases
  • Developing and updating LSBE program and faculty websites
  • Installing software and software fixes
  • Performing light repairs on hardware
  • Researching and testing emerging technologies
  • Maintaining the LSBE inventory database system

Curiosity and interest in technology is needed. Some knowledge of the basic applications used at UMD is desirable, e.g., Microsoft Word Operating Systems (2000, XP and Vista) and Microsoft Office products. Knowledge of any of the following is desirable, but not necessary: Dreamweaver (or other web authoring tool), Norton Anti-Virus; Adobe Acrobat, SPSS, Great Plains, Apple MAC software and Operating System, classroom equipment (projectors, VHS/DVD players, etc.), programming, and digital & video imaging.
