1996 Fall MAA Meeting

In the Fall of 1996, the Department of Mathematics and Statistics moved to its long-awaited facilities in the new Campus Center. For those familiar with the UMD campus, the Campus Center construction project involved gutting the terrance in front of Kirby Student Center, and building a network of hallways, offices, classrooms and computer labs in its place. The Center houses the UMD Achievement (Tutorial) Center, Job Placement, and Student Support / Admissions offices, as well as the Department of Mathematics and Statistics.

Within the Campus Center, the Department is located along the front -- overlooking Lake Superior -- with faculty offices situated along what used to be called the "Concourse". Besides the departmental administrative offices, the complex includes three departmental computer laboratories dedicated to student and faculty use, graduate student offices, an undergraduate activities room, a student/faculty commons, and a departmental colloquium room.

The images available here show "before & after" views, pictures of the construction process, architectural plans and interior locations. The Department inaugurated the facilities by hosting the Fall, 1996 North Central Regional Meeting of the MAA. A few picture of the building "in action" are included from that event.
