Students who graduate from a Saint Paul Public High School in good standing as participants in the Multicultural Excellence Program (MEP), who are U.S. citizens or Permanent Residents, and who meet college admissions requirements may benefit from one or more of the college financial aid opportunities described below.  MEP colleges review their awards annually and therefore are subject to change.

University of Minnesota: Crookston, Duluth, Morris & Twin Cities Campus

The University of Minnesota reaffirms its support of and commitment to the Multicultural Excellence Program. Saint Paul Public School MEP students who graduate in good standing with MEP, who are U.S. Citizens or Permanent Residents, and who meet the University admission requirements will receive award packages that cover their tuition, books and fees.

Specifics of the University of Minnesota MEP scholarship:

  1. Students may attend any of the University’s four campuses (Twin Cities, Duluth, Crookston or Morris).
  2. Each campus and every college on each campus has its own admission requirements.
  3. Students may apply to multiple colleges within the University of Minnesota
  4. Students who meet admission requirements will be enrolled in the College that best meets their interests and needs.
  5. Students are required to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by March 1 of their senior year of high school in order to qualify for the MEP U of MN Scholarship. In addition, any requested documentation from the Office of Student Finance must be submitted by May 1. Students who do not complete a FAFSA will not be eligible for University awards, and will NOT receive an MEP scholarship of tuition, books and fees.
  6. Students are encouraged to apply for other scholarships to use toward their college expenses. In some instances, non-university scholarships will increase the MEP package so it exceeds tuition, fees and books.
  7. The University will assist students in applying for financial aid.
  8. MEP students are encouraged to take a full load of 15 credits per semester, and are required to take a minimum of 13 credits (12 credits at UMD).
  9. Students must maintain a grade point average of 2.5 or greater at the University.
  10. Students maintaining a grade point average of 2.5 or greater are guaranteed MEP financial assistance until they receive an undergraduate degree, up to a maximum of four years of support. It is possible to receive a fifth year of MEP support by petitioning. The criteria for approving the petition are (1) extraordinary circumstance that slowed down progress toward a degree and/or (2) good progress being made toward a degree such that the student would graduate with a fifth year of support.
  11. The University will provide MEP financial assistance to MEP graduates who start at another institution but who transfer to the University not more than 2 years after graduating from a Saint Paul High School. Students must meet requirements for new Advanced Standing Students once they are enrolled at the University of Minnesota (meeting GPA and credits/semester minimum).
