October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month

• 50% of all women murdered in the United States are killed by a spouse or acquaintance.
• 25% - 30% of adolescent relationships are abusive.
• A woman is beaten every 9 seconds. One out of every 2 American women will be battered or physically abused by a partner in her lifetime.
• Every 6 hours a man batters a woman partner to death.
• Every day, 4 women are murdered by boyfriends or husbands.
• 2/3 of all marriages will experience domestic violence at least once.
• Family violence kills as many women every five years as the total number of Americans who dies in the Vietnam War.
• There are 1,500 shelters for women experiencing domestic violence in the United States. There are 3,800 animal shelters.
