Facilities Management-Heating Plant

Discover secret passageways at UMD. Learn about the science of steam. Participants will learn how to use a laser thermometer and tour the chiller and heating plants. Everyone will also receive a pair of ear plugs. |
Facilities Management |
Learn what we do in Facilities Management for the campus. You will also learn a little history on Architectural drawings. How we keep records of our utilities on a Map. How we work with departments on remodeling projects. Then we let you do some hands on drafting on the computer, and print out their work. |
Auxiliary Services/ UCard Office |
Financial Aid/Registrar's Office will issue a U-card between 7:30-8:00 a.m. to all children participating. Go to the U-Card Office in Kirby Plaza . |

Library

Come find out what a librarian does at the UMD Library. Learn about answering reference questions along with buying and cataloguing books.

UMD Stores
|
Participants will have the opportunity to tour the store facilities and learn what takes place in each area on a day to day basis. They will then be assigned to an area to help stock merchandise and provide customer service. |
Geographic Information Sciences Laboratory
|
Students will be introduced to Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and how it is used in our community. We will look at maps, satellite imagery, aerial photography, and other GIS layers. Hands-on experiences will include exercises with Google Earth and GIS software.

| Office of Cultural Diversity |
Come and explore the Multicultural Center! Participants will have an opportunity to meet a diverse group of students who will lead interactive games that will expand their knowledge of many cultures. For example, learning how to say basic greetings in different languages and learning about the food and music of different cultures. |
| Health Services |
Can healthy eating and exercise be fun and easy every day?? Yes!!! Come learn how through this hands-on kid-friendly cooking and exercise class! The workshop will introduce a few simple recipes and food samplings, quick exercise tips, and through the process, will highlight what Health Educators do!! (Please consider food allergies if signing up for this workshop). |
Recreational Sports Outdoor Program |
Students will learn what it can be like to be an outdoor education professional. The group will enjoy a natural history hike across campus, take part in fun and active team building games then boulder (climb low to the ground) on UMD?s Inland Climbing Wall.
*NOTE: parents must sign a waiver in order for their child(ren) to take part in this activity. Waivers will be available just prior to the start of the session. |
