In order to become a music major, students must be accepted by both the University and the Department of Music. Follow the application steps listed below.

Apply to the University of Minnesota Duluth

• complete the online University application at http://www.d.umn.edu/admissions/

Apply to the Department of Music

• download and complete the Music application
• submit one written letter of recommendation
• submit transcripts (transfer students only)

Music Auditions: In order to become a music major, students must pass a performance audition. Audition dates are as follows:

• January 26, 2008
• February 2, 2008
• March 29, 2008
• April 26, 2008

Click here for Audition Requirements : At the time of the audition, students must also complete diagnostic examinations in theory/aural/keyboard skills and an interview with the department head or an appointed designee. Any student who receives provisional acceptance into a degree program must pass a review (usually at the end of the first semester) to receive full acceptance. That review includes recommendations of major instructors and successful completion of an applied jury.

Students MUST complete the application process for the University and the Department of Music before receiving an audition time.
