Application Procedures

In order to become a music major, students must be accepted by both the University and the Department of Music. Follow the application steps listed below.

Apply to the University of Minnesota Duluth

Complete the online University application at d.umn.edu/admissions.

Apply to the Department of Music

Complete the Music application.
If you are having trouble completing the web application you can download and print a paper copy: pdf
Submit one written letter of recommendation.
Submit transcripts (transfer students only).

Auditions and Admitted Student Day:

In order to become a music major, students must pass a performance audition. Audition and Admitted Student Day dates are as follows:
Saturday, February 1, 2014
Saturday, February 22, 2014
Saturday, March 29, 2014
Saturday, April 26, 2014
At the time of the audition, students must also complete diagnostic examinations in theory/aural/keyboard skills and an interview with the department head or an appointed designee. Any student who receives provisional acceptance into a degree program must pass a review (usually at the end of the first semester) to receive full acceptance. That review includes recommendations of major instructors and successful completion of an applied jury. Students MUST complete the application process for the University and the Department of Music before receiving an audition time.
