Elaine S. Hansen has been appointed Director of Development for the University of Minnesota (UMD) School of Business and Economics. The announcement was made jointly by Bill Wade, UMD Director of University Relations and Development, and Kjell Knudsen, Dean of the UMD School of Business and Economics.
Hansen served as Commissioner of the Department of Administration for the State of Minnesota under Governor Arne Carlson from January 1995 to January 1999. Previously she was Finance Director for the City of Duluth.
Chancellor Kathryn A. Martin said, "Elaine's outstanding background of community and state-wide experience and leadership make her a strong addition to our UMD development staff. We welcome her on-board."
Hansen is a graduate of the UMD School of Business and Economics and is a Certified Public Accountant. In 1998 she was awarded the UMD Distinguished Alumnus Award and the UMD School of Business and Economics Business Person of the Year Award. She will begin her duties on August 16.
