Kevin Koprek from Antigo, Wisconsin was the first runner-up. Koprek is also a senior and is employed by the UMD Outdoor Program. He was nominated by his supervisor Kaija Webster.
Julie Carlson from Cloquet, Minnesota was the second runner-up. Carlson is a junior and is employed by the UMD Department of Accounting and Business Law. She was nominated by her supervisors Kora Cavanaugh and Alan Roline, Chair of the Department of Accounting and Business Law.
Hayne received a plaque and a check for $100 from the UMD Department of Human Resources. Both runners-up received a plaque and a $50 gift certificate from Target stores.
Twenty-three students were nominated for the award. Each nominee received a gift certificate from a Duluth area restaurant and a certificate of recognition. A luncheon honoring all student nominees was held April 5th.
UMD's 1999 Student Employee of the Year, Justin Hallquist, from Shoreview, Minnesota was named the 1999 National Student Employee of the Year and was recognized at the National Student Employment Association conference in San Diego, California.
