UMD Awards First Matti E. Kaups Geography Scholarships

Ian Oas of Duluth and Danielle Wagner of Park Rapids are Recipients

Ian Oas of Duluth, Minnesota and Danielle Wagner of Park Rapids, Minnesota were awarded the first Matti E. Kaups Geography Scholarships at the University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD).

The scholarships are based on high academic achievement in the field of geography, and overall scholarly performance.

Ian Oas displayed his proficiency in ethnic and cultural studies following in the footsteps of his mentor, Professor Matti E. Kaups. Danielle Wagner defined her interests in biogeography. Both students plan to pursue graduate careers in geography, a goal that the Kaups Scholarships wish to encourage.

The awards were presented at the annual end of the year celebration hosted by the UMD College of Liberal Arts.
