"Inside Politics: the Role of the Media in Elections"

CNN prime anchor and senior news correspondent, Judy Woodruff will speak on the topic "Inside Politics: The Role of the Media in Elections" on April 18 at 7 p.m. in the UMD Romano Gymnasium. The lecture is sponsored by the UMD Alumni Association and is free and open to the public.

Woodruff is a veteran of more than 20 years in broadcast journalism. She co anchors (with Bernard Shaw) Inside Politics, the nation's only daily program devoted exclusively to politics, and Worldview, an hour-long international newscast examining major news stories around the world. She is also co-anchor of CNN's Wednesday night edition of Newstand, a nightly news program providing insights into today's important issues.

Prior to joining CNN, Judy Woodruff was chief Washington correspondent for the MacNeil/Lehrer News Hour for ten years. She also served as NBC's News White House correspondent from 1977 to 1982 covering both the Carter and Reagan administrations.

Woodruff is a founding co-chair of the International Women's Media Foundation, an organization dedicated to promoting and encouraging women in communication industries worldwide.

The UMD Alumni Association is sponsoring the lecture with funds provided by the Dalton LeMasurier Memorial Lecture Series.
