UMD Tweed Museum of Art Names New Director

Jack Bowman, Dean of the UMD School of Fine Arts, has announced the appointment of Ken Bloom as director of the Tweed Museum of Art beginning October 4.

Most recently Mr. Bloom served as executive director of the Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art in Boulder, Colorado from 2001 to the present. His duties were that of managerial and curatorial director where his initiatives included professional partnership development, fundraising and long-range planning.

Dean Jack Bowman said, "We are indeed pleased to welcome Ken Bloom to UMD. He brings a broad range of experience and leadership in the field of arts management, curatorial services and community relations. His outstanding skills and background will provide strong direction and enhancement to the Tweed Museum of Art as we begin our second 50 years of service and enrichment to the community."

The Tweed Museum of Art first opened to the public in 1950 in what had been the home of prominent Duluthian George P. Tweed. Today the Tweed is located on the UMD campus and encompasses 32,00 square feet with nearly 15,00 square feet of exhibition space in nine galleries, housing a collection of over 4,000 artworks from the 15th century to the present. It hosts outstanding collections of French Barbizon paintings, Hudson Valley impressionism, as well as contemporary art.
