UMD Announces Recipients of FinnFest USA '92 Scholarships for 2003-2004

Fifteen UMD Students Named

The University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) has announced the recipients of the 2003 2004 FinnFest '92 Scholarships. A total of fifteen students were named.

Recipients are:

  • Jolene Alto: Aurora, MN
  • Joseph Bekkala: Mt. Iron, MN
  • Branden Hakala: Cloquet, MN
  • Dustin Hamari: Duluth, MN
  • Alison Hietala: Hibbing, MN
  • Cara Koski: Menahga/Menalga, MN
  • Eden Leone: Duluth, MN
  • Senja Lopac: Chisholm, MN
  • Selja Ojanne: Cromwell, MN
  • Kimberly Putikka: Mt. Iron, MN
  • Abby Ropponen: Cohasset, MN
  • Kim Smith: Duluth, MN
  • Jeremiah Stecker: Embarrass, MN
  • Elizabeth Sundeen: Soudan, MN
  • Philip Tomsich: Soudan, MN

The FinnFest '92 Scholarship was established from the nearly $50,000 raised at FinnFest USA in July of 1992. Since then, this organization has awarded 77 scholarships to outstanding UMD students.

FinnFest Scholarships are awarded to junior, senior, or graduate level students. Candidates must be enrolled full time at UMD and be in good academic standing. Transfer students may also apply. Preference will be given to students of Finnish heritage and those from NE Minnesota or NW Wisconsin.
