Interprofessional Education Strategic Planning Session

College of Pharmacy, Duluth, School of Medicine, Duluth

Planning for interprofessional educational opportunities will be the topic during the Interprofessional Education Strategic Planning Session June 8.

Faculty from the University of Minnesota College of Pharmacy, Duluth, University of Minnesota School of Medicine, Duluth, and the College of St. Scholastica received a MinnCare Grant to fund the session, which will explore interprofessional educational opportunities for health professional students during the 2004-2005 school year.

The session will be held beginning at 8 a.m. Tuesday, June 8, 2004 at the Best Western Edgewater, Duluth.

The dynamic field of health care requires increased collaboration between professions such as pharmacy, nursing and medicine. Realizing that tomorrow?s health care providers must be prepared to meet that challenge, U of M and CSS faculty will explore ways to integrate existing medical, pharmacy, nursing and other health care curriculum.

Funding for the session was provided by MinnCare Educational Small Grants.

The day-long program will explore where required competencies in the professions overlap and which can be addressed through interprofessional education. The program will also look at issues such as experiential and clerkship opportunities that provide students with interprofessional experiences. Participants will also discuss how health care professional students will reach out to the community to provide public health information and community service as well as the roles faculty and administration should play in supporting these efforts.
