A Remarkable Achievement
UMD Health Services Provides Growing Health Care Services to Students While Keeping Costs Low
Affordable Assistance in a Time of Escalating Health Care Costs

University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) Health Services has announced a remarkable accomplishment during these times of escalating health care costs. As the first line health service providers for a campus of 10,000 students, UMD Health Services has managed to keep per capita costs below a 3% inflation rate, while expanding services to the growing UMD campus community.

UMD Health Services provides a variety of services, including individual medical visits, flu shot clinics, classroom presentations, alcohol education programs, and peer education seminars. They are accredited by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care, Inc.

In a recent survey, UMD students gave the department rave reviews. Of those surveyed, 94% of students said the convenience of Health Services had enabled them to miss fewer classes, and 89% said that the safety and availability of care had "supported their ability to succeed academically".

The mission statement of UMD Health Services reads: "To provide students the opportunity to develop healthy personal lifestyles, help insure their retention at UMD, ad contribute to the overall excellence of their total educational experience. We will accomplish this mission by providing quality health care, counseling, and education that focuses on their physical, emotional, social, and intellectual well-being, and by being actively involved with all health issues that affect the University and community".
