UMD to Unveil New "Rain Garden" Project
as part of Campus Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan

Presentation Set for January 26

The snow that fell during the past few weeks will eventually melt and flow across UMD roofs and parking lots moving through Oregon and Tischer Creeks to Lake Superior. As this storm water flows down stream it will pick up any sediment, litter and other pollutants in its path.

UMD Department of Facilities Management is developing new practices of operation for the campus, providing new opportunities for research and education as part of the new UMD Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan. The most visible project in 2005 will be the construction of a "Rain Garden" along College Street, to filter and slow parking lot runoff in an attractive and innovative way. To comment or learn more, please attend a public meeting to be held:

Wednesday, January 26, 2005
Noon - 1 PM
Garden Room, Kirby Student Center, 3rd floor
Refreshments will be served.

UMD's Stormwater Steering Committee invites all interested persons to attend. Questions may be directed to Candice Richards at 726-8261, Erik Larson at 726-6915, or John King, Director at 726-8821.
