UMD Center for Regional and Tribal Child Welfare Studies
Receives Grant to Organize Colloquium
on Children Impacted by Methamphetamine Use

The University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) Center for Regional and Tribal Child Welfare Studies, in the Department of Social Work, was awarded a $5,000 grant to organize and present a colloquium on "Children Impacted by Methamphetamine Use: Best Practices." The conference will be presented at UMD in Spring 2006.

Co-sponsor for the event is the UMD Center for American Indian and Minority Health.

The UMD Center for Regional and Tribal Child Welfare Studies was one of two recipients to receive a system-wide grant from the University of Minnesota Consortium on Law and Values in Health, Environment & the Life Sciences.

About the Consortium:
The mission of the Consortium is to support work on the legal, ethical, and policy implications of problems in health, environment, and the life sciences. The goal is to advance knowledge, public understanding, and sound policy.

Consortium activities are expanding over time in response to the challenges posed by the life sciences and include original research, innovative use of electronic and hard copy resources, and direct educational offerings.

Ultimately, the University of Minnesota system aims to make a public difference by instilling in students a new appreciation for the importance of values and the possibilities of rigorous thinking across disciplines.
