"The Venus Mystique"

What: Café Scientifique: "The Venus Mystique"
When: 6 p.m. Thursday, October 27
Where: Pizza Luce, 11 E. Superior St., Duluth, Minn.

Visit Earth's sister planet Venus at Duluth's first "Café Scientifique" 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 27, at Pizza Luce Restaurant and Bar, 11 E. Superior Street, in downtown Duluth. The event is free and open to the public.

Join University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) McKnight Professor of Geological Sciences Vicki Hansen on a multimedia tour of Venus. Use 3-D glasses to view photos from NASA's Magellan mission and hear Professor Hansen's own research on the mechanics and myths surrounding the planet named for the Roman god of love and beauty. Audience questions and participation are welcome.

Café Scientifique is new monthly series produced by the University of Minnesota's Bell Museum of Natural History that aims to bring expert-led discussions on provocative science topics out of the labs and into pubs, coffee shops and restaurants throughout the state. The museum has partnered with the UMD to bring a year-long series of lively discussions on topics ranging from the science of first impressions and dinosaurs to cutting edge freshwater research.

Café Scientifique is made possible by a grant from the university's Council on Public Engagement. The Bell Museum is part of the University of Minnesota's College of Natural Resources.
