1st Annual UMD Student Organization
City Clean-Up
Set for Saturday October 22
Organized
by Better Neighbors & UMD Student Association
Students from the University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) are going to
be out in the community of Duluth to help clean-up the East Hillside
on Saturday, October 22, 2005. Students in the Better Neighbors program
and in the UMD Student Association saw a need for students to show their
support to the community. To make the event fun, students will be wearing
their Halloween costumes!
The clean-up is a competition, with the student organization earning
the most points awarded $100 and a trophy. Points will be awarded to
the organizations with most participants, those who clean up the most
trash, wear the most creative costumes and the order in which groups
finish their assigned cleaning area.
The clean-up will begin at 11 a.m. and end by 2 p.m.. Students will
meet at Portland Square Park, located on 4th street between 10th and
11th avenues, and end up at campus, where UMD Facilities Management as
agreed to lend a dumpster for the trash. Groups will be assigned a designated
area, including streets, sidewalks, and front yards to clean.
This is a great way for UMD students to show their care and support
to the community. An event like this has not been done before and with
success will hopefully become an annual event.
Anyone interested in this event is welcome and is invited to meet at
Portland Square at 11 a.m. for picture taking and assigning areas, as
well as judging the most creative costumes!
