UMD Ranks High in U.S. News & World Report's
Annual "America's Best Colleges"

Chemical Engineering Dept---Ranked Fifth in the Nation
Engineering Program---Ranked 38th in the Nation

UMD--Ranked Tenth Among Top Midwest Public Universities


The UMD Department of Chemical Engineering was ranked fifth in the nation for Best Undergraduate Chemical Engineering Programs (public and private) by the just released U.S. News & World Report issue of "America's Best Colleges," 2008 edition.

The entire UMD Engineering Program was ranked 38th in the nation for Best Undergraduate Engineering Programs (both public and private).

UMD ranked tenth among Top Midwest Public Universities with Master's Programs and 50th over-all among all Midwest Universities with Master's Programs (both public and private). There are 574 universities in this later category, ranked within four geographic areas: North, South, Midwest and West.

The UMD Engineering Program includes the following four (soon to be five) departments:

  • Chemical Engineering
  • Electrical and Computer Engineering
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Industrial Engineering

UMD announced on July 19 that it would begin a new Bachelor of Science degree program in Civil Engineering starting Fall 2008.
