The Sieur Du Luth Opera Training Program is a new enterprise on the UMD campus this summer. From June 26 through August 1, 35 singers from Washington to New York and Mexico come together with UMD students in Duluth for an intensive five-week curriculum geared towards building an operatic career. They will learn to audition, to perform, to interpret music, to act, to network, and to build a successful resume. In addition they will experience classes in stage combat, courtly dance, Alexander Technique, Yoga for Singers, as well as to prepare numerous concerts, recitals, and a full production of Mozart's opera, Don Giovanni.
UMD Opera Director and program designer, Dr. Regina Zona, brings outstanding faculty and guests to Duluth. Maestro Gaetano Colajanni, a familiar artist to Duluthians, returns to conduct Don Giovanni. Carol Vaness, the renowned singer from the Metropolitan Opera, will present a Singing Master Class and Cindy Sadler, fresh from singing Marcellina in Mozart's The Marriage of Figaro at the Des Moines Metropolitan Opera, will present her workshop on The Business of Singing. Ken Benson, an agent with Columbia Artists and Gregory Carpenter, the General Director of Opera Colorado will participate in the Audition Technique Panel. Yulia Levin of the Los Angeles Opera, Rolando Garza Rodriguez from Basel Switzerland and Alison Feldt of St. Olaf College will join UMD's voice faculty Rachel Inselman and Kelly Anderson as voice teachers and coaches.
