UMD Collaborates with Duluth Public Schools
In Korean Student Teacher Program

Global Teacher Internship Program at UMD
Hosts 46 Koreans

The UMD Global Teachers Internship Program is working with 46 Korean student teachers in a month-long internship in the Duluth public schools. The UMD Department of Education and the Duluth school system are collaborating to teach the Korean student teachers about how Americans are educated and helping them to experience global learning firsthand.

The Korean students came to Duluth January 24 and began workshops on the UMD campus. Jiyoon Yoon, UMD Department of Education assistant professor, along with UMD Department of Education faculty members have partnered with Duluth school teachers. The Korean student teachers are working in the elementary and secondary classrooms throughout Duluth based on their specific subject areas. The classroom experience began with observing the teachers and students during in-class hours, moving on to assisting the teachers in lesson planning and techniques, and then on to classroom teaching with the teachers supervising their work.

The program is designed to provide promising teachers of Seoul National University of Education interaction with American students. The program will conclude in late February.
