UMD Program Strengthened with $50,000 maurices Gift

Representatives from maurices announced a gift of $50,000 to support the Retail Marketing Analytics Program (ReMAP) at the UMD Labovitz School of Business and Economics (LSBE).

The gift will be used to support student learning, enhance the Analytics curriculum, and establish scholarships. "We are extremely grateful to maurices. In addition to their monetary gift, they will also provide ReMAP with case studies so that our students can work on solving current business questions, which is invaluable as they hone their analytic and critical thinking skills," said Sara Pitterle, director of ReMAP.

"maurices has been a very strong supporter of ReMAP from the beginning," said LSBE Dean Kjell R. Knudsen. "This gift demonstrates their continued commitment our students and our program."

Through ReMAP, students learn quantitative skills that are directly relevant to retail analytics. They receive a solid background in technology, marketing and develop strong written and verbal communication skills.

"There is a severe shortage of graduates who possess strong quantitative skills and at the same time are good at asking industry-relevant questions. Firms need graduates who understand consumers, can make use of large datasets for predictive analytics, and can communicate results to decision makers," said Praveen Aggarwal, LSBE interim associate dean.

"By supporting this program, we are able to help the students obtain the skills they need to thrive in the business world," stated Mike Herrick, maurices senior vice president, Planning and Allocation. "As a long-time supporter of the Labovitz School of Business and Economics, we look forward to furthering our partnership through this innovative program."
