UMD's Kjell R. Knudsen Assists Business School Accreditation Standards Committee

Duluth, MN — University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) Dean Kjell R. Knudsen is a member of the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) Blue Ribbon Committee. Knudsen helped AACSB create new business school accreditation standards, which were recently announced. The standards will affect over 600 of the world's leading business schools. Knudsen is the Dean of UMD's Labovitz School of Business and Economics, an AACSB accredited school.

"As society demands more from business schools, changes in higher education are necessary to stay current and to create new opportunities." Knudsen said.

The AACSB's new set of accreditation standards for business schools is the first change to the accreditation standards in ten years. The changes include a greater focus on important topics such as social responsibility, sustainability, distance learning, faculty tenure, financial management, executive education, and building faculty relationships with top private-sector talent.

"The committee took into account the rapidly changing global economy," Knudsen said. "One goal was to provide future leaders with the tools to serve a new and geographically expanding marketplace."

The standards are intended to be flexible. "As we face constant change, the new accreditation standards support quality management education and impactful research," said Knudsen. "The standards also help business schools to serve their communities by providing leadership, skills, and knowledge necessary for economic success."
