UMD Professor Receives Minnesota Excellence in Education Award
DULUTH, MN – Julia M. Williams, associate professor, UMD Department of Education, received the 2013 Minnesota Excellence in Education Award. She has worked with the North Central Association Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement (NCA CASI) and AdvancED for many years. The award notes her "unparalleled leadership in promoting and advancing excellence in education."
"Dr. Williams is a highly valued faculty member in the Department of Education, not only for her work in the UMD education programs, but her outstanding work in the P-12 education community. This specific award focuses on her expertise in assessment and evaluation in which she is building a national reputation," said Joyce Strand, head of UMD's Department of Education.
Williams has served as an external review team member and lead evaluator on over a dozen reviews in Minnesota and across the United States. Due to her diverse educational background, she is often asked to lead external review teams for non- traditional schools that serve students from unique backgrounds. In addition, Williams is a member of the AdvancED Minnesota State Council.
