UMD Student Featured on "Native Report"

DULUTH, MN – Sophomore Brigette Lacquette, who plays defenseman for the UMD women's hockey team, will be featured on the PBS television show "Native Report." The interview will air on WDSE on Thursday, March 21 at 8:30 pm and will be rebroadcast on Saturday, March 23 at 4 pm.

Lacquette is majoring in both physical education and American Indian Studies. She hales from Mallard, Manitoba, and is a member of the Cote First Nation. She is the first Ojibwe/Anishnabe in UMD hockey history.

In addition to an impressive season with the Bulldogs, Lacquette helped Team Canada's Under-22 squad win a gold medal at the 2013 Meco Cup. Among her dreams is to win a NCAA national championship with the Bulldogs and to play for Canada in the Olympics.

"Native Report," produced by PBS station WDSE/WRPT, is a magazine-style series that runs positive, upbeat stories about American Indian and First Nation people. The series is hosted and co-produced by Stacey Thunder. Tadd Johnson, department head and director of graduate studies at UMD's Department of American Indian Studies, is also a co-host and co-producer.
