Duluth, MN – UMD’s Art and Design Department has been named an associate member of the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD), an accrediting organization that establishes standards for graduate and undergraduate art degrees. This puts UMD among 333 schools that belong to NASAD, each meeting stringent criteria for accreditation.

UMD began working towards NASAD’s requirements for accreditation in 2011, successfully completing an in-depth study, a two-day site visit, and follow up reports.

“This is a huge stamp of approval,” says Jim Klueg, head of UMD’s Art and Design department. “We met all the quality benchmarks that NASAD stipulates and the site visit team was very impressed with our students’ work, our faculty and staff, and the positive working atmosphere in our department.”

There are 340 students in UMD’s Department of Art and Design, which offers majors in graphic design, studio arts, art education and art history.
