Second Major or Degree Program

Second Degree within the University of Minnesota system

If you are admitted to a second undergraduate degree program, you may be eligible for Ford Federal Direct Subsidized and Unsubsidized loans. Your second degree program must be different than the degree program you have already completed. Example: You have completed your Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree, and you are admitted to the Bachelor of Accounting (BAcc) program. You will be eligible for Federal loans. To be considered for these loans, you must complete and submit a Petition to Reinstate Financial Aid Eligibility. The form must list the course(s) you are required to take to complete your second degree and must be signed by your adviser. Only required courses are eligible for financial aid.

Second Major within the University of Minnesota system

If you are completing coursework for a second major in a degree program from which you have already graduated, you are not eligible for financial aid. Example: You have completed your Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree, with a major in Economics, and your BBA degree has been conferred. If you then decide to complete a major in Finance, you will not be eligible for financial aid. Double majors must be completed simultaneously, before the degree is conferred, to be eligible for financial aid.

First Undergraduate Degree conferred at another college or university

If you have a bachelor’s degree from another college or university, and you have been admitted to an undergraduate degree-seeking program at UMD for a second degree, you may be eligible for Ford Federal Direct Subsidized and Unsubsidized loans. To be considered for these loans, you must complete and submit a Petition to Reinstate Financial Aid Eligibility. The form must list the course(s) you are required to take to complete your second degree and must be signed by your adviser. Only required courses are eligible for financial aid.
