U Card Charges for Books & Supplies
You can now use your U Card to charge purchases of textbooks and supplies from University Bookstores to your University student account. Just bring your U Card and another photo ID to any of the University of Minnesota Bookstores and say "charge it." They will accept your U Card just like a credit card. If you have a brand new or replacement U Card, you must wait one day before charging your books.
Billing
Your bookstore charges on your U Card will be included on your next monthly student account billing statement, along with other tuition and fee charges. You must pay the bookstore charges in full, unless you make the purchases after the last bill of the previous term and before the second bill of the current term. If you meet that time line, your bookstore charges may be included in an installment plan. Unpaid bookstore charges may result in registration and transcript holds on your student record.
Returns
Return privileges are limited. Be sure to save your receipt in case you need to return or exchange books. Any returned books show up as a credit on your student account.
Financial aid recipients
Financial aid disbursements can be applied automatically towards bookstore charges by checking "Yes" on the Financial Aid Withholding Authorization section of the electronic Financial Aid Award Notice (eFAAN). The charge must be made after the last bill of the previous term and before the disbursement of aid for the current term.
You must:
- be a currently enrolled student at the U of M
- have no financial holds on your student account
- have a valid U Card and another photo ID
