(02/22/11) - The UMD Men's club hockey team finished their season with a strong showing during the WCCHA
tournament in Blaine, MN. The first game, the Dogs faced a tough St. Thomas team, and it proved to be a good one. The
teams split earlier this year, so as expected, it was a barn-burner. Three periods ended with a 3 - 3 tie and the game went
to an overtime period, which solved nothing, as both teams held their ground. UMD went on to convert on all three
shoot-out attempts, and Tre Douglas saved one to get the win in his last game as a club hockey member. With a win
against St. Thomas, another game was played against the #1 seeded Gophers. The contest proved to be a gut-wrencher
as UMD went down by a score of 1 - 5 late in the second period. The Dogs never gave up and came back to make it a
thrilling 4 - 5 at the end of the second period. After a long fight for the next goal in the third period, the Gophers notched a
goal to make it 4 - 6. Again, the Dogs came back fighting as they have all season long and Matt Morris found the twine to
put it back within one. Alas, after pulling the goalie and mustering up what they could, the UMD Men's club hockey team
fell by a score of 5 - 6. This game capped the end of an amazing season by this team. This UMD club hockey team set
the standards high and will be long remembered for their efforts and their establishment of University of Minnesota Duluth
as a great club hockey program! Thank you everyone who has been a part of our season and we look forward to another
fun and exiciting time next year!
